This is not a warm weekend evening, in DaLian, a gorgeous seashore city, a group of guys who are from Southern China, the Swamp are bringing more and more unexpecting dreams in musical styles which you will feel complex and variational. But you will feel contrastive. Two different kinds of musical languages, blurredly variational electronics and unstrung rock, have been mixed a row of shadowy music walls, just like bringing sea wind from the South, with salty and damp smells, also bringing fast move footsteps in crowded streets. Although there are no connection between both of them, they surely come in harmony.
The Swamp also invite another group which are known as post-rock, WangWen, to be on-stage guest. Compared to tranquil environment in DaLian, WangWen bring more surprise to our hearts. just like some quiet passion, slowly crouching on the quiet lakes or small ponds, will be like crackle explosion, and finally make a huge wave in the Oceans.
This stopover of Swamps' tour is in Lalian tonight. The stage for them is located in "Rock Action Club", which is run by WangWen. Somebody would say this is the base of LaLian's independent bands. They keep spreading the spirit of Post-rock, step by step they have been changing musical environment in this city.
The sky is turning dark quickly, and all performance starts early, right at 7:30pm. The weather is not as cold as expected, compared to this quiet city, some quiet people go into the club and sit around the stage, but closely.
WangWen bring people's attraction to the stage, queitly and naturally, sing!
Between gap in different song, you would hear some noise of big hands, and then feel their excitement and feeling.
then next, here comes the Swamp's show time. The leading vocalist, HZ, makes a joke with audience,:" it seems this is special expression to band show only in Dalian?!" and then more people step forward close to the stage.
Obviously, we need a calm heart to listen to the Swamp's music. we will feel warm and touch in "Fear", seems in a fresh "morning", leave every nightmare behind...
The Swamp belong to being live. They are focusing on playing. It seems like a piece of gorgeous painting from the combination of sythesizer and electronic tambourine.
More obviously, they belong to being tiny live band show. They can keep closer with audiences. It seems they are flying in the sky, sailing in the sea, and tracking in partial tracks. Only with faint lighting in the bar makes us feel more gorgeous, more freeer...
The last song, "Transmutative story", one of the lastest work from them, makes the live show more exciting. People wouldn't like to leave until they make sure the Swamp won't come back.
Tonight, we have a chance to grab the Swamp and WangWen to come together, which are being with same dreams and feeling of music.

Guangzhou's famous indie band---The Swamp, keep continuing their experimental tour of musical vedio arts. Recently, Xiao Ji, an indepedent visual artist from Guangzhou, joins the Swamp, kicking of co-operation with the Swamp both in musical and visual, including on-live show and all kinds of vedio. The first MV, "FEAR", has been accompished. and has been in the latest mixed album "mv.EVERTWHERE.dvd". The swamp announce that they will reproduce a new version MV for TV broadcasting. Swamp's Hoyzoy says:"Even though it needs time to get in fit with understanding in music and ideals in expressions, it is a good start. I am satisfied with this MV. We used to make MV in DIY, and co-operate with others. There are saveral versions of "FEAR", which we are not satisfied with them. Anyway we have got a satisfied answer to that." he also mentions that they will continue their co-operation with Despairada, then they will released some visual materials and make on live bank show more multicultures and more attractive.

 It was a sight that may go down in history. On Saturday, February 11, an enormous queue snaked around the Fringe Club as hundreds of people tried to get into the debut HK Live! show. We are pleased to now announce the March 4 line-up:
Headlining will be PixelToy, who recently won Commerical Radio's Best Newcomer award. The duo offer electronica in the tradition of French group Air ?V but with a serious Hong Kong twist.
Joining them on the line-up are one of Hong Kong's most legendary live acts. Gayamyan are highly respected among the city's musicians for their original music and the utterly remarkable voice of frontman Chan Ho-fung. They have a wide presence already in Hong Kong, for their performances in Zuni Icosahedron's multi-media performances such as Magic Flute, 2001 a Hong Kong Odyssey and the political satire series East Wing West Wing.
Finally, The Swamp, one of Guangzhou's most rocking live acts, are coming in from Guangzhou to add a regional slant to the proceedings. Once again, MC Goldmountain will be delivering freestyle raps as he introduces each band on stage.
HK Live! is a series of band showcase nights organized by Hong Kong's leading city living magazine, HK Magazine. The shows feature the best emerging and established bands of the Hong Kong music scene and a cast of music personalities. This is a monthly exhibition of the emerging trends of the Hong Kong music scene ?V and HK Magazine is playing the role of curator. As an indepent band for 10 years, this is the Swamp's first officially released album in China. "Rome won't be built in a day!", it takes them 10 years to creat this album of more than 20 songs, which not only accumulate the most ambition and tension, but witness their maturation and greatness of music. Today, the Swamp put their muscial style as aesthetic and blurred. They melt progessive rock, post rock and different kinds of alternative electronic into their music, which is exquisitely touching, or enthusiastic. Continuously endless sadness contains unlimited potential. with significant lyrics, here comes to you an attractive and gorgeous poetic world. You will find various elements inside, including Jazz and chill-out, not in a route, but showing originally, just like coverall exposing what they feel and what they think. Also like "the Swamp": seems not only weary, but sentimentally, not only sluggish, but also flowing, not only dissipated and dirty, but filling of life and passion....In a word, The Swamp is not only normal independent band. Their music will become classic.
Who should we still believe? … The Swamp’s “Seeing the Doctor” - [ Media Music Indie ]
......If you just listen to the prelude, you will feel this song is easy listening, and it also makes you forgive the uneasiness and intense. The feeling is just like the song, “we are going to fade out”, in last album, which is a lucid and lively rhythm of alternative rock, noisy effects of guitar and sad melody. What expressed in the lyrics blows out conflict of the real world that our human beings live in.
There is background mixed with the song which fans of the swamp like most. Seemingly crazy guitar makes you feel much uneasy. We don’t know if it is the accurate expression of the real world or it is to intend its sadness, which is difficult to understand......
Please “Shut Up!” --- The Swamp’s New E.P “See the Doctor” - [ Media Indie Music ]
......The first song, “Be Patient”, will give us big surprise. The usage of JAZZ component shows that they have been trying to combine creative spirit of different music.
E.P “See the Doctor’s creating background is based on the band agent Mr. Lin who wants to disclose a cheating doctor. He pretended that his lower part of body itches. Finally the doctor hadn’t done any normal medical check and made an unbelievable decision with very expensive descriptions. That ‘s this song’s composing base. Surrounding by the noise guitar and fast speeding drumming, and water-boiling bass-lines, you will feel you couldn’t breathe. You will feel the darkness of black metal in the climax of the song.
“Depressing” is the best song I like in this album. In the beginning is the simple drumming and clear guitar chords, and then comes out the brand-named guitar noise. The lyric reminds me the famous song “Wish You Were Here from Pink Floyd.
Every night, the sky of the city fills with AM and Fm --- thousands of kinds of commercial ads or sexual consulting radio programs. According to “See the Doctor”, The swamp put some sound sample which is original to record this crazy city we are living in.
The name of the song, “Too noise”, comes from the book, “Too Noise Loneliness”, written by Bob Bulbar. It is such a wonderful big-beat work, just like the industrial banning rhythms surrounded by chords. You will fell the powerful surfs coming to you. The result of loneliness is blowing out and becoming stronger.
In the last song, “Muddle headed”, comes from the feeling, which they had to face the criticism and satire in these two years. The climax of the song is guitar solo, which describes that there is no choice for lyrics. And it seems to show us the braveness of living in hard environment.
In the summer of 2003, I graduated from university and found a job. Every day, I have to face those who hide a dagger behind a smile, pretending to be humble, smiling and knobbing, and then leaving. Under all dishonest eyes, I have to repeat the same job mechanically, a day by a day.
In a totally strange city, you must learn how to deal with criticism, and learn to how to enjoy loneliness.
I still remember using such topic t2 year ago, “Blowing in the life flower of the Swamp”.
I would say yes! In the Swamp’s music, I can feel the spirit of being strong even though you get involved in difficult environment. In my heart, the flower of The Swamp will never, never, never fade out!
